I mainly write middle grade fiction for 9 -12 year olds. My books are perfect for those making the Year 6 to Year 7 jump, as they deal with so many issues young people face at this stage in life.

Gemma is 11, an only child who lives with her quirky, hardworking, adoring Mum. It is a very happy partnership but there has always been a mysterious cloud hanging over Gemma’s life – the fall out between her Mum and her family. She knows so little about it – just memories that she can’t quite grasp.

Her Mum has the offer of a month-long cruise. Gemma convinces Mum to go and she moves in with Uncle Joe, determined to find out what happened in the past and bring her family back together! It’s a fun time – she learns to play tennis, makes new friends and meets lots of cats. But can she dig deep, discover the truth and get her family back together?

11 year old James is having a tricky time - his parents split up a while ago and he isn’t very keen on either of their partners. He has a new teacher too – the quirky but wonderful Mr Froggatt. The one constant in James’s life is his lovely dog Digger who is always by his side. Life becomes even harder for James when Digger becomes poorly. He has to face Digger’s illness and family changes, all at a time when high school is looming and friendships are tested. 

Digger and Me was shortlisted for the prestigious Branford Boase Award (2022) which recognizes the work of author and editor. It was also shortlisted for the James Reckitt Hull Children’s book award (2022) and longlisted for the Spark! Book award and the Shropshire Bookfest Book Award (2021/2). But then she discovers that Jay, a quiet boy from her primary school is living opposite and they get to know each other. The new friendship helps her to navigate this difficult time ahead.
